Stamped concrete cost calculator
Last updated: By ConcreteFinder Research Team
Stamped concrete is priced by how much hand work the pattern takes, not by where it goes. One stamp in one colour is a fast day; multiple patterns hand-coloured against a contrasting border is a slow one for a more skilled crew, and the rate more than doubles. Pick the tier below and the calculator shows what it costs and what the identical slab would have cost in plain broom finish.
What will stamped concrete cost?
Estimated installed cost for 400 sq ft
$7,400 to $12,600
- Basic: one stamp pattern, one colour ($18 to $30 per sq ft, MC Excavate)
- $7,200 to $12,000
- Sealing at install ($0.50 to $1.50 per sq ft, Nice Guy Concrete)
- $200 to $600
- Works out at, per square foot
- $18.50 to $31.50
- The same slab in plain broom finish, for comparison ($9 to $15 per sq ft, Nice Guy Concrete)
- $3,600 to $6,000
Excludes 13 percent HST. Stamped concrete has to be resealed to keep its colour, and that is a running cost the install price hides: budget a reseal visit every few years. Excavation and granular base are inside the installed rates used here.
The three tiers, and why they cost what they do
MC Excavate is the only source in this set that prices stamped work by what is actually being done. Basic, at $18 to $30 per square foot, is one stamp pattern and one integral colour. Mid-range, at $31 to $40, adds a border and a second colour, which means a second set of forms, a second release colour and a crew that has to keep a clean line while the slab is still workable. Premium, at $41 to $48 or more, is multiple patterns hand-coloured, which is finishing work measured in hours per square metre rather than square metres per hour.
Canadian Stamped Concrete, working out of Scarborough and Durham, prices the same three tiers almost flat: $29, $30 or more, and $32 or more. That is not a contradiction, it is a specialist with one crew, one set of forms and a 400 square foot minimum, whose costs barely move between tiers. Both models are on this page because both are what a homeowner will actually be quoted.
What the premium buys, and what it costs later
Underneath the pattern, a stamped slab is the same slab. Same excavation, same granular base, same reinforcement, same thickness. MCL Concrete prices the difference honestly as an addition of $5 to $9 per square foot over a broom finish, which on a 400 square foot patio is $2,000 to $3,600 for the appearance alone.
The part that rarely appears on a quote is upkeep. The colour and the sheen live in the sealer rather than in the concrete, so a stamped surface that is never resealed goes flat and pale, faster on a driveway that takes road salt than on a sheltered patio. Sealing at install runs $0.50 to $1.50 per square foot per Nice Guy Concrete, and a reseal is a similar cost each time it is done.
ConcreteFinder tracks 29 stamped and decorative concrete companies across the Greater Toronto Area. Ask each of them which tier they are quoting and what the same slab would be in broom finish; a firm that will not answer the second question is not quoting the first one clearly.
Frequently asked questions
How much does stamped concrete cost in Ontario?
MC Excavate prices it by how complicated the pattern is: $18 to $30 per square foot for one stamp and one colour, $31 to $40 for a border with two colours, and $41 to $48 or more for multiple patterns hand-coloured. Canadian Stamped Concrete, a GTA specialist, quotes $29, $30 or more and $32 or more for the same three tiers.
What does stamped concrete add over a plain broom finish?
MCL Concrete puts the stamped premium at $5 to $9 per square foot over a standard broom finish on the same slab. That is the number worth deciding on, because the slab underneath is identical work either way.
How much is a stamped concrete driveway in Toronto?
Genesis Pro Build in Toronto puts a stamped driveway at $15 to $30 per square foot, Nice Guy Concrete at $18 to $50, and Toronto Concrete Repairs prices its standard stamped driveway at $25 per square foot and a double-car stamped driveway at $10,000 to $12,500 as a whole project.
Is there a minimum size for stamped concrete?
There often is. Canadian Stamped Concrete applies its published rates to areas of 400 square feet and up, and custom-quotes a flat rate below that. A small stamped landing or step is therefore priced as a job, not as square footage.
Why do stamped concrete quotes vary so much?
Because the tiers are real work, not marketing. One pattern in one colour is a stamp pressed into a fresh pour. Multiple patterns hand-coloured with a contrasting border is a much slower day for a more skilled crew, and MC Excavate's own tiers put more than twice the rate on the second one.
Does stamped concrete need resealing?
Yes, and it is the running cost that install pricing hides. The colour and the sheen live in the sealer, not in the concrete, so a stamped surface that is never resealed fades. Sealing at install runs $0.50 to $1.50 per square foot per Nice Guy Concrete, and a reseal costs roughly the same each time.
