That last line is a second opinion, not part of the total. MCL Concrete publishes whole-project bands by patio size, so if the estimate above sits far outside its band for your size, the difference is worth asking a contractor about.
The per-square-foot band is wide on purpose: a small patio costs far more per square foot than a large one, because mobilising a crew, a mixer and a disposal bin costs the same either way. Why a small patio costs so much per square foot
Nearly everything a patio job costs happens once. The crew arrives once, the forms are set once, the disposal bin is delivered and tipped once, and the concrete truck charges its partial-load fee once. Spread those over 120 square feet and the rate looks brutal; spread them over 600 and it looks reasonable. The same firm prices a decorative one at $12 to $20 and a heated one at $30 to $50. All four are current, and which one applies depends on the job, not on the market.
Reading a patio quote
A decorative finish should appear on a quote as an addition, not a different rate. MCL Concrete prices it that way: stamped adds $5 to $9 per square foot over a standard broom finish, exposed aggregate adds $3 to $5. If a contractor quotes stamped at a flat rate with no broom-finish comparison, ask for both, because the premium is the number you are actually deciding about. Steps are a separate line and a big one. Action Home Services prices concrete steps at $100 to $500 per linear foot installed. A patio quote that includes two steps up from the lawn without pricing them is not a complete quote.

Do I need a permit for a concrete patio in Toronto?
